The Foundation of Belief

Making Sense of Chaos

The human quest is the search for answers. As we began to look up from the fires that aided our survival we have looked out to the stars and in to each others souls. We developed a language which led to the exchange of ideas. The early primates recorded the changing patterns of weather and seasons. Enlightment gained through our observations became a part of our plans and the stars of the sky marked time. The strength of the sun and the global effects of the moon orbiting the Earth were clear to early humans. The physical universe that surrounded people, the lightening, giant storms the land, sky and sea were endowed by humans with names and characteristics. These names became the myths of early generations. a plurality of religions that provide us with a vast selection of beliefs on which we base our answers Fostering our faith creating a heaven of divinities helps us control our greatest fears. This search for answers began with one primal goal - survival.

In this quest for answers some have succumbed to the lure of power. The state is sown with greed. The irrational desire to have everything even at the expense of one or a million other souls. Frequently it is not the one who is renown in the depth of thought that are consumed with greed. With no surprise it is the ones who wish to rule. They become dangerous to other individuals and the mass of humanity by amassing wealth, through inheritance, by violent conflict and by the calm and casual means of law and politics. Law is bent on the whim of kings. Science seems to provide facts, factors that are to some degree mensurable.

The laws of science are fixed. The speed of light, gravitational pull and the measure of seasons does not change. In place of the limits to change or fact prized supposition can not challenge truth. Over the eons our study of time and benefits of science have helped to an enlightenment of the soul of humanity. It has guided us to further understand where we stand on this small living planet.

Big Bang to the Solar System

Euphemistically, the scientific event corresponding with the creation of the universe. At one point all existence consisted of a single cell, an atom very hot and dense. At a point thirteen and a half billion years ago the dense atom burst forth in a big bang and expanded with parts coalescing to form a universe of stars. There is a great deal of math, the language of science, to explain the phenomenon. There are also numerous pictures indicating that the universe is ever expanding.

Whether the expansion of the universe is finite or infinite it is mostly the fuel for the poets of humanity. The small part of the universe surrounding us, the solar system especially the third planed to that system the earth physically confines us but not our minds. The planet was created 4.5 billion years ago and lifeless until 3.5 billion years ago. Science claims that primordial soup containing amino acids and proteins developed and yielded the simplest life

Origin and Evolution of Life

As different species of one cell organisms developed, changed and proliferated the world was not impressed. Yet as the developing organisms spread world wide, carried by currents through the ocean to new environments. These new realms caused changes. The changes in evolution around the world, the flora and the fauna is available easily through books in libraries and online. We can view the fossil remains of creatures from as far back as 200 millionn years ago. We can study how great changes, vast destruction and a changing environment gave existence to new forms. Even a casual study can overwhelm us with the variety and years that have become history. While much of what is written is susposition the human mind cannot escape the volumes if information and the hard evidence.

Of this great time our earliest ancestors are recorded. Hominini is the tribe to which belong Human (Homo) and Chimpanzees (Pan). The evidence for the development of Hominini is recorded to have occurred 5.5 to 6 million years ago. Homo Sapiens such as australopithecines diverged from Homininae 2.3 to 2.4 million hears ago. Perhaps in the year 30,000 BC the development of language allowed early humans to plan aided their survival. While the recorded language of humanity began with numbers and counting the first recorded language comes from Mesopotamia. Our language is not an extension of our ancestral ability to utter noises and make sounds. Noam Chomsky claims that, “language is based on an entirely different principle than any animal communication system”. But what has aided the system of recording language is that most of what was written and saved were songs that spoke of human history.

Our Songs and Psalms

Our first introduced to the power of words in rhyme delivered with a cadence is through the books of Homer. It is through the plays of the Greeks and the words of their philosophers that help establish the thinking civilization of humans. Songs can evoke a profound emotion of sadness, happiness and delirium. Feelings so intense they can cause the listener to become suspended in a hypnotic state. In this euphoric state the participant can seemingly talk to ancestors, gods, devils, muses or furies. The word in conjunction with the rhythmic sounds of flutes, harps and drums are not only accurately remembered the song becomes a part of the paradigm of social development.

The songs serve the needs of the singer or the dancer. She or he is involved in a cadence of development that makes humans planning and moving, acting thinkers. The person involved in the ritual communicates their experience to the tribe through a doctor or priest. The tribe knowing what changes need to be made to benefit the tribe interprets the message as a means to better conditions. The tribe will possibly move to a new place or seek out new areas for hunting. The songs also help to calm the tribe; they are sounds and words that may have been learned as babies and sung as children. Songs may keep devils away or attract friendly spirits. The songs become recorded history and make myth real. Music and certain songs help us deal with our guilt, and with our passions. Sung by yourself songs help to calm your spirit.

It is debated how language developed. Was language a matter of recording great hereos and the triumphs and failures of generations and cultures or was it developed to communicate Some suggest it came out of our gestures while others claim is is an expression of our vocalizing of needs, or warnings. It clearly developed from cuneiform writing. Later simple forms took the place of difficult pictures. Script was more easily formed and became popular in the western parts of the world while cuneiform writing is still used in China. Most of the debate is futile as there is no exacting evidence of the development of writing.

We sit on a warming planet where because of different beliefs, customs, religions and cultures humanity cannot communicate. We need to connect by a secular source where communication and experience are in a fashion that brings us together one to one. We now can connect and look at the life of a person living in Eqypt, Libya or anywhere in the world, when we can see how they suffer but most of all how their differences are minimal and their likeness is so great. Because we can see they are human. When we can speak together and sing each others songs, we can work together to support our trials and celebrate our triumphs.

What is center to our needs and understanding is the small solar system in which we find earth the planet on which we live. Our planet is presently of great concern to the people. Evidence suggests that our use of coal and oil are causing a huge increase of carbon dioxide gas. The high concentration of C02 causes a warming of the atmosphere. The evidence is plentiful and convinces all but those who rule. The greedy heads of corporations intent on making fortunes from the sales of gas and coal. They, the owners and rulers claim the majority of atmospheric and environmental scientists for no benefit are sponsoring the greatest fraud in human history.

Genesis

In the beginning: The three greatest words of religious scripture. The beginning was the actual beginning of humanity or was the beginning a signpost of our culture, the change from an old culture of small wandering tribal activities to one where we inhabited specific areas of land and became habituated to an agrarian society. A social paradigm illustrating a graduation from a traveling hunting/gathering society to one where the seeds of edible plants have been collected and grown for the diet of the tribe, to augment what is brought back through hunting. This is likely a move from a time where women are little more than traveling beasts to a partner in a culture; and the change of being a liability to becoming a transporter and developer of the future of humanity.

In the beginning God creates the universe and male and female from the dust of the ground. 1(27) God then creates a man, "and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul". 2(7) This man God has created is Adam. Then for Adam a helper is made. While in a deep sleep a rib is taken to be, “bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man”. 2(23) Here man and God are satisfied.

Yet this woman brings with her the destiny of humanity - free will. Within the garden God has prepared for Adam were all the trees from which Adam could eat, all but the fruit of one tree, “the tree of the Knowledge of good and evil.” 2(17) The fruit of this tree God said would kill Adam. Regrettably there is a subtle, crafty serpent in the garden that addresses the woman named Eve. The serpent draws Eve’s attention to the one tree of which the fruit will kill those who eat or touch the tree; at which point the serpent says to Eve, “Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, knowing good and evil”. 3(4 &5) When Eve is able to see that the tree was a good food source she eats and gave the fruit to Adam.

Adam and Eve gain knowledge. Cursing the serpent God says to Eve, “I will greatly multiply thy sorrow, and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children, and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee”. 3(16) To Adam he said, “cursed is the ground for thy sake”, and “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou returns unto the ground; for out if it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return”. Man now has free will and now man and woman are on an equal footing in the progress of humanity.

If man and woman are both equal wrought of mud with woman the helper, the mate of man formed of the body of man they are a presentation of the duality of the world. An alliance of the positive and negative aspects of nature; an affirmation of change and the opposition or resistance to change has been created. Man and woman having distinguishing attributes, the yin and yang of the universe that together create the family, the tribe, and the culture of human development. They are in the stewards, the guardians or managers of the property of the world. In my mind there is Eve coming along with a wrapping full of seeds.

So what we have here is the creation of God, the universe and humanity. The actual start of the evolution of cultural. There will be trials: the destruction of the world by fire and flood, who could expect less. The rules of God handed down to Moses become a guide to the belonging to a group, to a tribe, to a chosen civilization. This is how the family acts toward the world and each other; here is how the family behaves within the tribe and how tribes associate with one another. The words of these books are handed down as songs. The characteristics of the song aid the listener’s ability to remember the exact words of the past, of sages, of gods and demons. Here is the magic of music, mind and meaning.
